Senegal and Morocco set for AFCON 2025 final

Senegal will clash with hosts Morocco in the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations final after a dramatic semi-final night delivered tight contests and decisive moments across the country.

Morocco secured their spot in Rabat by holding off Nigeria in a 4–2 penalty shootout following a goalless draw after extra time. Meanwhile, Senegal edged past Egypt 1–0 in Tangier, ending the Pharaohs’ bid for a record eighth AFCON title and setting up a heavyweight final.

At Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Morocco faced a disciplined Nigerian side, enduring long spells without possession but remaining composed. With neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation or extra time, penalties determined the outcome, with Morocco converting four spot-kicks to Nigeria’s two, securing their first AFCON final since 1976.

Earlier, Senegal demonstrated tactical discipline against Egypt at Stade de Tangier. Sadio Mané’s decisive goal separated the sides, and Senegal managed the game to frustrate Egypt’s late attempts, confirming their return to the AFCON final and reaffirming their status as one of Africa’s elite teams.

Sunday’s final in Rabat will see Morocco aiming to crown a memorable home campaign, while Senegal seeks to reclaim the title they last won in 2021.

The third-place play-off between Nigeria and Egypt will take place on Saturday at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Stadium, rounding out a thrilling conclusion to AFCON 2025.
