The High Court in Accra has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abronye DC, also known as Kwame Baffoe, pending the determination of his trial.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Bankole Thompson, who admitted the accused to bail with two sureties, both of whom are required to be justified. This means the sureties must provide proof of financial standing and credibility acceptable to the court.
As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered Abronye DC to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters every two weeks. He has also been directed to surrender all his travelling documents to the registry of the court.
In addition, he is prohibited from travelling outside the jurisdiction without prior permission from the court.
During proceedings, counsel for the applicant, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame and assisted by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, moved the motion for bail and urged the court to grant the request pending trial. The legal team argued in favour of the application on behalf of the accused.
On the other side, Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai informed the court that the prosecution was not opposed to the bail application, leaving the decision to the discretion of the court.
After hearing submissions from both parties, Justice Bankole Thompson granted bail under the stated conditions. The case is expected to continue as the prosecution prepares for the next stage of the trial proceedings.
