The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on aspirants who lost in the party’s constituency executive elections to put the contest behind them and unite with the newly elected executives to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued after the successful conduct of the nationwide constituency executive elections held on Saturday, July 11, Dr. Bawumia congratulated the newly elected officers, describing their victory as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by delegates at the grassroots.
He urged the executives to provide the leadership, commitment and unity needed to rebuild and energise the party’s structures as it prepares for the next presidential and parliamentary elections.
Dr. Bawumia also appealed to unsuccessful candidates not to regard their defeat as the end of their political journey within the party but to continue contributing to its growth and reorganisation.
“Every member has a critical role to play in rebuilding a stronger and more united NPP. Unity remains our greatest strength and the surest path to victory in 2028,” he said.
The constituency executive elections followed the successful completion of polling station executive elections held from May 10 to 16 and electoral area coordinator elections conducted between June 10 and 15 as part of the party’s bottom-up reorganisation strategy.
The elections across the country were generally peaceful, although a few constituencies experienced disputes and court injunctions that delayed voting in some areas.
The constituency polls are the third major phase of the NPP’s internal electoral roadmap unveiled by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, earlier this year.
The party is expected to proceed with regional, chapter and external branch elections between June and July before climaxing the reorganisation exercise with the election of national executives from September 18 to 20, 2026.
The NPP leadership has consistently maintained that the bottom-up electoral process is intended to strengthen grassroots participation, promote internal democracy and position the party for a strong comeback in the 2028 general election
