Bahamas to recruit 300 Ghanaian teachers under labour mobility partnership

Three hundred Ghanaian teachers will be deployed to the Bahamas in 2026 under the labour mobility partnership between the two countries.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the development in a social media post on Saturday, July 11, after representing President John Dramani Mahama at the Bahamas’ 53rd Independence anniversary celebrations.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis, where he conveyed a message from President Mahama.

The teacher deployment builds on the existing labour mobility partnership between Ghana and the Bahamas, which has already enabled Ghanaian nurses to work in the Caribbean nation.

In October 2025, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a teacher recruitment programme aimed at creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian educators while addressing teacher shortages in the Bahamas.

The initiative was launched as a pilot programme, with both countries indicating that it could later be expanded to cover sectors such as commerce, culture, tourism and human capital development.
