Soldier, five remanded for alleged assault on manufacturing company

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a soldier and five self-acclaimed security operatives over alleged assault at a manufacturing company near Mankrong Nkwanta.

The accused are Lance Corporal Benjamin Agyekum, a serving soldier, and Mahama Iddrisu Dauda Seidu, Isaac Ofori, Adom Bills, Boafo Hayford and Ato McHenry.

They denied conspiring to assault Ma Kaixiang and denied being part of an organised criminal group.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Achiburi, briefing the Court, said the complainants were Police personnel from the Accra Central Regional Police Command.

He noted that Lance Corporal Agyekum, 32, is attached to the 5th Infantry Battalion at Burma Camp, Accra, while Seidu, 48, Ofori, 35, Bills, 32, Boafo, 47 and McHenry, 48, are self-acclaimed security operatives claiming affiliation with the National Security Secretariat.

ASP Achiburi told the Court that on May 6, 2026, at about 1200 hours, the complainants received a distress call that the accused persons, dressed in military and immigration uniforms and travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887-V, had invaded SI Jun Toiletries Manufacturing Company at Akwakwa near Mankrong Nkwanta.

The Court heard that the accused allegedly handcuffed workers and subjected them to severe beatings before Police arrived to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects.

ASP Achiburi said during investigations, the accused admitted storming the company’s premises, claiming to be members of a National Security Monitoring and Evaluation Team, but failed to provide identification to support their claim.

Police said that the case remained under investigation.
