Ghana has won the bid to host the 70th Session of the United Nations Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, following a successful presentation at the 69th CAF meeting held in Seychelles.
The high-profile continental event will coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, providing the country with a major platform to welcome tourism ministers, policymakers, industry leaders and other stakeholders from across Africa.
The conference is expected to showcase Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant creative arts industry, renowned hospitality and diverse tourism attractions, while promoting the country as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
Leading Ghana’s successful bid, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, said the country remains committed to using tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic growth, cultural exchange and regional integration.
She noted that hosting the event reflects growing international confidence in Ghana’s tourism sector and its ability to organise major international conferences.
The hosting rights are also expected to strengthen Ghana’s position as a preferred destination for heritage, cultural and diaspora tourism, while providing an opportunity to market the country’s tourism, culture and creative arts industries to a wider global audience.
The 70th Session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa is expected to deepen collaboration among African countries on tourism development, promote investment opportunities and support initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable tourism across the continent.
