Otumfuo Osei Tutu II enstools Nana Ama Bonsu as 15th Asantehemaa

The enstoolment ceremony took place on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace, in accordance with Asante tradition. Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away in August 2025 after serving as the 14th Asantehemaa for eight years.

Her appointment takes immediate effect, making her the latest custodian of one of the most revered traditional offices in the Asante Kingdom.

Nana Ama Bonsu comes from a distinguished royal lineage. She is a granddaughter of Otumfuo Agyeman Prempeh I, the 13th Asantehene who was exiled to the Seychelles by the British during the Anglo-Asante wars of the 19th century. She is also a niece of Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II and the sister of the late Nana Akwasi Agyeman, the long-serving former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, popularly known as Okumkom.

The new Asantehemaa succeeds Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who died at the age of 98 on August 7, 2025. She was enstooled in 2017 at the age of 90 following the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who served as Asantehemaa for 39 years until her death in 2016 at the age of 109.

The installation of Nana Ama Bonsu marks a significant milestone in the history of Asanteman, as she assumes responsibility for preserving the customs, values and traditions of the Asante Kingdom while supporting the Asantehene in matters of governance, culture and social development.
