Ghana secured a valuable point against England in their second Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after holding the Three Lions to a goalless draw at the Boston Stadium on Monday.
The Black Stars produced a disciplined and resilient display to frustrate the Euro 2024 finalists, denying Thomas Tuchel’s side the victory they needed to book an early place in the Round of 32.
England, who had dazzled in their opening victory over Croatia, struggled to break down a well-organised Ghanaian side and failed to register a shot on target until the 57th minute.
The Black Stars remained compact throughout and threatened on several occasions on the counterattack as the match developed into a scrappy and closely contested affair.
Tuchel introduced Bukayo Saka, whose playing time is being carefully managed because of an Achilles problem, and replaced Jude Bellingham with Morgan Rogers in search of a breakthrough.
Saka forced Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare into a fine save, while substitute Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar with a header. Marc Guehi also came close, but his header was cleared off the line.
Despite England’s late pressure, Ghana nearly snatched a dramatic moment when Prince Kwabena Adu went down under a challenge from Ezri Konsa inside the penalty area. However, no spot-kick was awarded, much to the relief of the English side.
The draw leaves England top of Group L, but they must now avoid defeat against Panama in their final group game to secure qualification to the knockout stage.
For Ghana, the result strengthens their hopes of progressing, with the Black Stars earning another important point after opening their campaign with victory over Panama.
