Public sector workers to get 9% pay rise in 2027

Public sector workers are to receive a 9% increase in total remuneration from January 1, 2027, following an agreement between the government and Organised Labour.

The adjustment comprises an 8-percentage-point increase in base pay and a 1-percentage-point allocation for conditions of service.

Secretary-General of Organised Labour, Joshua Ansah, announced the deal on Wednesday after a meeting of the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee.

The parties have also agreed to a 10% across-the-board pay increase for 2028, effective January 1.

The adjustment will be calculated based on the applicable wage bill as of December 31, 2027.

Implementation of the agreement remains subject to the applicable legislative process.

The 2027 increase is scheduled to take effect on January 1, with the 2028 adjustment following on January 1, 2028, once the necessary procedures have been completed.
