Police warn WASSCE candidates against post-exam violence

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) against engaging in violence, vandalism or any unlawful acts after completing their final paper on Friday, June 19, 2026.

According to the Police, any student involved in acts such as violence, arson, assault, vandalism or other criminal activities will be arrested and prosecuted, warning that such offences could have serious implications for their future.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Service said the caution was prompted by recent incidents in the Upper East Region that led to the arrest of six students over separate acts of misconduct.

The statement indicated that two students of Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested for allegedly setting a teacher’s apartment on fire.

It added that four students of Bawku Senior High School were also arrested for allegedly engaging in rioting, assaulting members of staff and destroying both school and private property.

The Police urged students to mark the end of their examinations responsibly and celebrate within the confines of the law.

It further appealed to parents, guardians and school authorities to collaborate in promoting discipline, respect for the law and peaceful behaviour among students.
