More than 50% of the over 53,000 students who were initially unable to secure placement through Ghana’s Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) have completed the self-placement process, the Education Ministry has said.
Hashmin Mohammed, the Press Secretary to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, said the development had helped ease pressure on the ministry’s resolution centres, which were overwhelmed by parents and students seeking help with placement challenges.
“We have moved beyond 50% of the over 53,000 students who were given the pathway to do self-placement,” Mohammed said on Eyewitness News on Monday, September 28, 2026.
He said the number of students who gained access to secondary education through both automatic placement and self-placement was about 97,000.
Mohammed said the situation at several resolution centres had also improved, with some centres in the Northern, Savannah and North East regions no longer receiving large numbers of parents and students.
He identified the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions as the main areas where concerns remained.
“In the Ashanti region, I interacted with the official high school coordinator for that region. And what he told me was that they are not receiving the numbers, the peak numbers that used to come to the resolution centre,” he said.
Mohammed, however, said he had not yet checked the latest data to provide the exact number of students who had completed self-placement.
The ministry introduced self-placement for students who could not secure automatic placement, allowing them to select from schools with available spaces.
