President John Dramani Mahama has rejected claims that his administration’s anti-corruption drive is politically motivated, insisting that prosecutions are based solely on evidence and due process.
Speaking to residents during the Citizens’ Engagement in the Volta Region on Friday, July 17, 2026, President Mahama said his government had no intention of persecuting innocent individuals and remained committed to fairness in all accountability cases.
The President expressed confidence in Ghana’s justice system, noting that the country’s investigative, prosecutorial and judicial institutions provide adequate safeguards against unjust prosecutions.
He said his administration harboured no malice against anyone and that he took no pleasure in prosecuting people who had done nothing wrong.
According to President Mahama, cases are pursued only after the available evidence has been thoroughly assessed, dismissing suggestions that political opponents were being deliberately targeted.
He explained that corruption investigations often require months of work before institutions such as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) or the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) are in a position to make arrests.
President Mahama reiterated his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, stressing that no individual would be shielded from investigation where credible evidence of wrongdoing exists.
He assured residents that accountability remains a key priority of his government.
