The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repatriated veteran highlife musician Barosky to Ghana after distressing footage of him in Manchester, United Kingdom, circulated on social media.
The footage sparked concern among Ghanaians over the musician’s welfare, prompting Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, to visit him in Manchester.
During the visit, Barosky expressed his willingness to return to Ghana.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 8, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the musician had been safely brought back to the country.
“I can confirm that we have repatriated Barosky and he is safely back with us in Ghana,” he said.
According to Ablakwa, the Ministry fully funded the repatriation as part of its consular responsibilities.
He added that the government is providing Barosky with psychosocial support and financial assistance to aid his reintegration into society.
Ablakwa also expressed gratitude to members of the public, particularly broadcaster Nana Romeo, for drawing attention to the musician’s situation.
“We are most grateful to our fellow citizens, particularly Nana Romeo, for bringing Barosky’s heart-wrenching plight in Manchester to our attention,” he said.
He also commended Ghana’s High Commission in the UK for its role in coordinating the repatriation.
