Mahama secures deal for 1,840 agricultural machines from Belarus

President John Dramani Mahama has secured an agreement with Belarus for the supply of 1,840 units of agricultural machinery, a move expected to boost Ghana’s mechanisation drive and deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the Belarus-Ghana Business Forum in Minsk, President Mahama said the partnership signals a shift from traditional diplomatic engagement to concrete economic collaboration focused on trade, investment and industrial development.

“We are gathered here not merely to exchange ideas but to create opportunities, forge partnerships and lay the foundation for a new era of Ghana-Belarus cooperation,” he stated.

The President noted that Ghana and Belarus possess complementary economic strengths, with Belarus bringing expertise in manufacturing and agricultural mechanisation, while Ghana offers political stability and strategic access to African markets.

Highlighting Ghana’s improving economic outlook, Mr Mahama pointed to declining inflation, stronger foreign reserves and economic growth exceeding six per cent as indicators of renewed investor confidence.

He also showcased the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative, designed to increase productivity, stimulate exports and attract investment, while encouraging Belarusian businesses to explore opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing and other productive sectors.

The forum ended with the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering economic cooperation, agriculture and trade promotion, with discussions also advancing potential partnerships in the mining industry.

President Mahama stressed that the success of bilateral relations should be measured by tangible outcomes.

“The true measure of our relationship should not be the number of diplomatic exchanges we conduct, but the businesses we establish, the jobs we create, the technology we transfer and the prosperity we build for future generations,” he said.
