Prof. Yaw Ampem Amoako, Medical Director of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has expressed management’s profound gratitude to Dr. Andrew James Carmichael, a Consultant Dermatologist from the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom (U.K.), for his enormous contributions to the provision of specialist dermatology services and training at the hospital.
He said Dr. Carmichael’s annual visits to the hospital over the past 17 years have significantly contributed to improvements in the delivery of specialist dermatology services and post-graduate training at KATH.
Prof. Amoako was speaking during a courtesy call paid on him by Dr. Carmichael to formally announce his arrival for his routine annual working visit to the hospital. He was accompanied by Prof Martin Kofi Agyei and Dr Afua Ofori, both at KATH.
Prof. Martin K. Agyei, head of the Dermatology Unit of the Medicine Directorate of the hospital, led Dr. Carmichael to pay the courtesy call on the Medical Director.
Even in retirement, Dr. Carmichael continues to use his own resources to undertake annual visits to the hospital to strengthen the capacity of the Dermatology Unit to deliver specialist services and post-graduate training in the Medicine Directorate of the hospital.
He has been offering teledermatology services in addition even in his absence to help deal with difficult dermatological cases.
Dr. Carmichael, who has had a distinguished medical career with NHS Foundation Trust of the U.K. spanning over 30 years, is a widely recognized international medical volunteer for his close to two decades of work as a mentor and Honorary Visiting Consultant Dermatologist to KATH.
The International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) has awarded him the prestigious European Humanitarian Dermatologist’s Certificate of Appreciation as a result.
He is an Honorary Member of the British Society of Medical Dermatology (BSMD), where he previously served as a founder member, treasurer, and president. He is also a past President of the North of England Dermatological Society.
