Interior Ministry suspends Kantanka Security Services

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following the shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo injured.

The decision comes a day after personnel of the private security company, owned by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s family, were implicated in the violent incident that occurred at the residence of Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Adwoa Safo’s younger brother, amid a succession dispute within the family.

According to preliminary police investigations, six personnel of Kantanka Security Services Limited were arrested after allegedly possessing and using firearms, including shotguns and a pistol, during the incident. Under Ghanaian law, private security companies are prohibited from using firearms.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior said the suspension followed reports of the alleged use of unapproved uniforms and the possession and discharge of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company while providing security services at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The Ministry said preliminary investigations pointed to possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security companies in Ghana.

As a result, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been ordered to immediately cease all operations pending the outcome of investigations.

The Ministry has also advised all institutions and organisations to suspend any business dealings with the company until investigations are concluded and further directives are issued.

Additionally, the company has been directed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all necessary information to facilitate ongoing investigations.
