Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured the family of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong that the government will pursue justice following his fatal shooting in the Bronx, New York.
Mr Ablakwa gave the assurance during a telephone conversation with the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, on Friday, October 30, 2026, during which he conveyed the condolences of President John Dramani Mahama and pledged the government’s support to the bereaved family.
“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” Mr Ablakwa told the father, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking on behalf of the President, the Minister also expressed the government’s grief over the teenager’s death.
The Ministry said officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York had also visited the family at their residence on Friday to express their condolences and solidarity.
It condemned the killing and called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The Ministry further indicated that it, together with Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York, would actively pursue the matter in collaboration with US authorities and provide the family with the necessary legal and consular assistance.
The government also extended its condolences to Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is in Kumasi, as well as his friends and other relatives in Ghana and the United States.
Police are searching for three men suspected of involvement in the shooting, which occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, as Javits was on his way to school.
The teenager, who moved to the United States from Ghana about a year ago, was reportedly shot in the abdomen and later died at a hospital.
