Ghanaian teen, 15, shot dead in the Bronx; police hunt 3 suspects

A 15-year-old Ghanaian immigrant has died after being shot in the Bronx, New York City, in the United States, on Thursday, October 29, police have confirmed.

The teenager, identified as Javits Frimpong, died at a hospital after being shot near the intersection of Crotona Place and East 171st Street shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to authorities.

Sources told PIX11 that the teenager was shot in the abdomen and was found in and out of consciousness.

Police are searching for three men suspected of being involved in the shooting. The suspects, who were last seen wearing black clothing, were reportedly fleeing down Fulton Avenue. Two of them were wearing surgical masks.

Surveillance video shows a person fleeing the scene who matched a description released by police: someone wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a mask. Authorities said the victim ran about a block after being shot before collapsing. He later died at a hospital.

In an interview with journalists, the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, said his son, who moved to the United States about a year ago from Ghana, had complained of being bullied by some students at school.

He further disclosed that two students had been suspended for repeatedly bullying his son.
