The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) concluded a search and rescue operation at Adenta Newsite early Thursday, rescuing four people after a one-storey building collapsed during Wednesday evening’s downpour.
Five people were trapped when the structure near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket caved in at 6:30pm on Wednesday.
GNFS teams from National Headquarters, Legon, and Abelemkpe fire stations were deployed immediately.
Rescuers pulled out four occupants alive: Fred Atagba, Solomon, and children Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda.
All sustained injuries and were taken to 37 Military Hospital for treatment.
The fifth victim, Margaret Kpeli, believed to be in her late 30s, was retrieved unconscious from the debris and handed over to Adenta District Police for further investigation.
Rescuers also saved a dog trapped in the rubble.
The GNFS commended residents who assisted before emergency teams arrived, and thanked personnel from the fire service, Ghana Police Service, medical teams, and other agencies for their collaboration.
The collapse occurred during heavy rains that affected parts of the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday evening.
