The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards, which seek to recognise excellence, professionalism and outstanding contributions to journalism.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, September 3, 2026, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said entries opened on Thursday and would close on Friday, September 18, at 11:59 p.m.
He stressed that there would be no extension of the deadline and urged eligible journalists to submit their entries early to avoid last-minute difficulties.
Mr Dwumfour said the awards had, over the years, provided a platform to recognise journalists and media organisations whose work had contributed significantly to Ghana’s democracy, development, good governance and national discourse.
“The Ghana Journalists Association is pleased to announce the opening of entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards, Ghana’s premier platform for recognising and celebrating excellence, professionalism and outstanding contributions to journalism,” he said.
“Entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards open today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, and will close on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. There shall be no extension of the submission deadline,” he added.
According to Mr Dwumfour, the decision not to extend the deadline was necessary as the GJA prepares to mark the 30th anniversary of the awards.
“This is because this year is the 30th edition of the GJA Media Awards, and we will be marking the awards’ 30th anniversary. The awards are going to be packed and loaded,” he added.
He said participation was strictly open to GJA members in good standing, with entries limited to works published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
“We don’t have time, so let’s stick to the timelines. Applicants are therefore encouraged to submit their entries ahead of the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties,” he said.
“Eligible applicants may submit only works published or broadcast from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. Entries that fall outside the specified period will not qualify for consideration,” he added.
GJA launches new website
The GJA also unveiled a new official website as part of efforts to improve communication and access to information for journalists and the general public.
Mr Dwumfour said the website would serve as the association’s digital home, providing information on GJA activities, press releases, training opportunities, membership and journalist safety.
He urged journalists and members of the association to visit gjaghana.com regularly and use the platform as a trusted source of official information.
He said the website was already being used to receive entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards ahead of its formal launch.
