Renovation works on Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport are expected to be completed by December 2026 as part of efforts to expand passenger handling capacity and address congestion challenges at the airport.
The $15 million project, being undertaken by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), is aimed at upgrading Terminal 2 to accommodate both domestic and international flights.
The Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed this when she briefed members of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee during an oversight visit to the airport.
She said the renovation project was progressing according to schedule and expressed confidence that the facility would be completed and ready for use by the end of 2026.
“By December 2026, we will finish the whole work on Terminal 2, and His Excellency the President will come and commission it,” she said.
The rehabilitation of Terminal 2 is expected to provide additional operational space and reduce pressure on Terminal 3, which has experienced increasing passenger traffic due to growing demand for air travel.
GACL said the upgraded terminal will improve the efficiency of passenger processing and enhance the overall travel experience by allowing the airport to better manage both domestic and international operations.
The project forms part of broader measures by the airport management company to modernise facilities at the Accra International Airport and position it to handle future growth in passenger numbers.
The oversight visit by the parliamentary committee formed part of efforts to assess ongoing infrastructure projects and ensure that critical transport facilities are delivered on schedule.
