Company Secretaries’ Summit and Awards set for July 16

Ghana is set to host the maiden Company Secretaries’ Summit and Awards on July 16, 2026, bringing together governance professionals, company secretaries, board advisers and corporate leaders to examine emerging governance challenges and recognise excellence in the profession.

The event comes at a time when governance practitioners are facing growing demands to strengthen board effectiveness, improve regulatory compliance and help organisations navigate increasingly complex operating environments shaped by technology, changing stakeholder expectations and evolving corporate governance standards.

Organised under the theme of advancing governance excellence in a rapidly changing world, the summit is expected to provide a platform for professional development, knowledge sharing and networking among company secretaries and governance experts from across Ghana.

A major highlight of the summit will be a session on artificial intelligence and governance titled “The AI Wake-Up Call: A Guide to Governance in the Intelligent Age.”

The session will be led by renowned AI Governance Strategist, Karl George MBE, who will examine the five dimensions of AI risk and the three pillars of effective AI governance.

As organisations increasingly adopt artificial intelligence technologies, participants will explore how boards and governance professionals can manage emerging risks while harnessing the opportunities presented by AI-driven transformation.

The second major session, themed “Boardroom Dynamics,” will be facilitated by Catherine Engmann, Managing Director of Mindful Governance and Convener of the Summit.

The session will focus on understanding behavioural patterns in the boardroom, managing stakeholder relationships and enhancing board effectiveness through improved governance practices.

An afternoon breakout session will provide participants with opportunities for deeper engagement on critical governance issues affecting organisations across both the public and private sectors.

The summit will also feature a keynote address by former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Charlotte Osei, who is expected to share insights on leadership, governance and institutional accountability.

According to the organisers, the event is designed not only to equip company secretaries with practical tools and contemporary governance knowledge but also to create a professional community that supports practitioners in their increasingly strategic role within organisations.

“This gathering is not just another conference. It is a platform for governance leaders who are already operating at the highest level and intend to stay there,” the organisers noted, adding that the summit aims to strengthen participants’ ability to influence decision-making and support effective governance outcomes.

The event will culminate in an awards ceremony recognising individuals and organisations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to governance excellence, ethical leadership and best practices.

Organisers believe the summit will help elevate the profile of company secretaries and reinforce their role as critical advisers to boards and management teams, particularly as organisations confront new governance, technology and compliance challenges.

Beyond the formal sessions, participants are expected to benefit from extensive networking opportunities, enabling them to exchange ideas, build professional relationships and contribute to the strengthening of governance standards across Ghana’s corporate and institutional landscape.

Registration for the summit is currently open through the official event website.

As governance continues to evolve in response to technological disruption and changing business realities, the Company Secretaries’ Summit and Awards is expected to serve as an important forum for shaping the future of corporate governance in Ghana.
