Ghana’s Black Stars have arrived in the United States to begin the final stage of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after concluding their pre-tournament training camp in Wales.
The Ghana contingent departed Cardiff on Wednesday following Tuesday’s international friendly against Wales and landed in Washington, D.C., before heading to Bryant University in Providence, Rhode Island, where the team will establish its World Cup base camp.
The squad was warmly received on arrival by officials of Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United States, led by staff of the Ghana High Commission in Washington.
Scores of Ghanaian supporters also turned out to welcome the four-time African champions, creating an atmosphere of excitement as players stopped to sign autographs and pose for photographs with fans eager to see the national team ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
Confidence boost after wales draw
The team’s arrival in the United States comes on the back of a morale-boosting result against Wales in Cardiff.

The draw ended a difficult run of results for the Black Stars and marked their first positive outcome since October 2025.
Prior to the match, Ghana had endured four consecutive defeats during the November and March international windows, raising concerns about the team’s form ahead of the World Cup.
The performance against Wales, however, provided encouragement for head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team as they continue to fine-tune preparations for the global showpiece.
The result also offered signs of improvement in the squad’s cohesion and competitiveness against quality opposition.
Final test against Jamaica
The Black Stars are expected to play one more preparatory match before the tournament begins.
Ghana will face Jamaica on June 10 in what will serve as the team’s final warm-up fixture before attention shifts fully to the World Cup campaign.
The encounter is expected to give Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad, test tactical combinations and finalise his preferred starting lineup ahead of the opening group match.
Tough group awaits Ghana
Ghana face a challenging task at the tournament after being drawn in Group L alongside European heavyweights England and Croatia, as well as Central American side Panama.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at Toronto Stadium in Canada, a match widely regarded as crucial to their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.

Subsequent fixtures against England and Croatia will likely determine whether Ghana can secure a place in the round of 32.
Quest for knockout qualification
The Black Stars will be aiming to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since their historic run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they came within a penalty kick of becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
With a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talent, expectations remain high among supporters that Ghana can make a strong impression at the expanded 48-team tournament.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Ghana hoping to carry the momentum from their encouraging display against Wales into a successful campaign on football’s grandest stage.
