Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has extended warm congratulations to all newly elected Constituency Executives following the successful party constituency elections held across Ghana on August 15, 2026.
In a statement issued by his Communications Directorate, Dr Bawumia praised the peaceful conduct of the polls, describing it as a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and respect for the will of its members.
Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that the new regional leadership will provide the direction needed to strengthen the party and position it for victory in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He also commended all candidates who contested for offering themselves for service, while urging those who were unsuccessful to rally behind the newly elected executives.
“The regional contest is over,” the statement noted. “The greater task is unity and renewed energy to secure victory in 2028 and it begins now.”
The NPP has regional chairpersons who oversee the party’s activities and organisational structures across Ghana’s 16 regions.
The regional chairpersons play a key role in coordinating constituency executives, mobilising supporters and implementing decisions of the party’s national leadership at the regional level.
They also serve as important links between the national leadership and grassroots members, particularly during elections and other major party activities.
Regional chairpersons are responsible for providing political and administrative leadership within their respective regions.
Among other responsibilities, they work with regional executives to strengthen the party’s structures, organise meetings, mobilise members and coordinate grassroots activities.
They also have an important role during national and local elections, where regional party structures are expected to support campaign activities and help coordinate efforts across constituencies.
The chairpersons are therefore influential figures within the NPP, particularly because the strength of a political party depends heavily on effective organisation at the regional and constituency levels.
