The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has been appointed the new Majority Leader in Parliament following the nomination of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Mr Ayariga relinquishes the Majority Leader position after President John Dramani Mahama named him for the ministerial role as part of a Cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Agalga, who previously served as Deputy Minister for the Interior, is expected to lead the Majority Caucus in Parliament.
The reshuffle also saw President Mahama reassign Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to serve as Minister for Defence.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the changes have been communicated to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
As part of the changes, Ahmed Ibrahim has been moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to head the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The President has also nominated Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament, as Minister-designate for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
The appointments and nominations are subject to Parliament’s approval.
