The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspect, Wisdom Tetteh, in connection with the homicide of Theophilus Ashitey Amarh, a 27-year-old car dealer.
According to Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, who addressed the media on Tuesday, the investigation began following the discovery of Amarh’s charred remains inside a vehicle at Adamafio Link, situated off the Legon Bypass Road, on April 7, 2026.
Tetteh, who was identified as a close friend and neighbor of the victim, was tracked to the Republic of Togo and arrested on April 30, 2026, through a collaborative effort with Interpol. At the time of his arrest, he was attempting to sell the deceased’s mobile phone.
Following his capture, he was handed over to Ghanaian authorities at the Aflao Border and transported to the Homicide Unit at CID Headquarters for interrogation.
Detailed investigative work revealed that the incident originated on April 6, 2026, when Tetteh lured Amarh to his residence under the false pretense of negotiating a vehicle sale. During this encounter, the suspect launched an attack on the victim, inflicting head injuries that proved fatal.
Following the murder, Tetteh proceeded to sell the deceased’s Hyundai Elantra saloon car for a total of GH₵ 170,000.00, successfully collecting an initial part payment of GH₵ 80,000.00 from the transaction.
In an effort to conceal the crime, the suspect reportedly transported the victim’s body to Adamafio Link on April 7, 2026, removed the vehicle’s license plates before setting both the car and the body on fire to destroy forensic links. Despite these efforts to eliminate evidence, the suspect’s presence at the scene was recorded by CCTV surveillance cameras.
Furthermore, investigations indicated that a vehicle belonging to a neighbor was allegedly used to transport the body to the disposal site; that neighbor has since been granted police inquiry bail and is cooperating with the ongoing probe.
According to COP Donkor, because the body sustained extreme firedamage, conclusive visual identification of the deceased was impossible, thus requiring the services of forensic experts who have collected DNA samples from the victim’s mother for comparative analysis.
On May 5, 2026, Wisdom Tetteh was formally arraigned before a court and remanded into police custody. He is currently in detention and assisting the police Homicide Unit as they finalize the case for prosecution.
