6 Aggrey Memorial students arrested over assault

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College.

The suspects, all juveniles aged between 13 and 17, were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities and subsequently detained to assist with investigations.

According to police reports, the victim and two colleagues had attended an inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, February 20.

After the event, as they exited the stadium premises, they reportedly encountered a group of students from Aggrey Memorial Senior High School who questioned whether they were students of Adisadel College. Police say the group allegedly attacked them shortly after confirming their school identity.

While the two accompanying students managed to escape, the victim was reportedly overpowered and assaulted. The attackers allegedly seized his mobile phone, cash amounting to GH¢1,400, and his shoes before fleeing the scene.

The injured student was initially treated at the Cape Coast Stadium Hospital and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital for further medical care. He has since been discharged.

A police medical report, endorsed by a medical doctor, indicated serious injury to the victim’s right eye, including significant trauma and damage requiring further medical attention.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
