The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), under the leadership of Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has intensified its nationwide youth enrollment campaign through its high-impact Campus Connect initiative, reaching students across several major universities in Ghana.
Following successful activations at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), the University of Ghana, Takoradi Technical University (TTU), and Accra Technical University the campaign continues to embed a health insurance culture within Ghana’s tertiary institutions.
“The objective is not only to register students but to empower them to manage their membership independently,” Dr. Bampoe emphasized, highlighting the Authority’s commitment to youth engagement, digital innovation, and grassroots outreach.
Taking Services Directly to Students
Timed to coincide with campus welcome activities and orientation weeks, the activations brought essential NHIS services directly to students, removing bureaucratic barriers and simplifying access.

The team, led by Angela Asiedu, Esq., Acting Deputy Director of Marketing and Branding under the Corporate Affairs Directorate, provided on-the-spot registration for uninsured students, immediate renewal of expired memberships, and support for linking NHIS cards to Ghana Cards, a key compliance requirement under ongoing reforms.
This seamless service delivery reflects a broader institutional shift toward convenience, efficiency, and proactive outreach, which are key pillars of the Authority’s evolving engagement model.
Digital-First Strategy
Beyond physical registration, students were guided on using the *929# USSD short code and the MyNHIS App to renew memberships and access insurance information remotely. Officials described the digital push as critical to improving service delivery among a tech-savvy demographic that values speed and accessibility.
Advocacy and Transparency
Campus Connect also served as a platform for accountability. Students learned about the NHIS Benefit Package and the Authority’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal payments at credentialed health facilities. They were encouraged to demand receipts for any out-of-pocket charges and report unauthorized payments for investigation and possible refunds, strengthening public trust and protecting members’ rights.

For many students, this activation was their first direct interaction with NHIS officials, turning policy into personal experience.
Vision-Driven Expansion
The expanding Campus Connect footprint reflects the strategic direction set by Dr. Bampoe, prioritizing youth acquisition, digital innovation, and early enrollment habits among Ghana’s future professionals. By institutionalizing campus activations, NHIA is strengthening membership growth while deepening brand credibility.
As the initiative spreads across Ghana’s major universities, NHIS Campus Connect is fast becoming more than an outreach programme—it is a movement that places health security at the heart of student life and positions NHIS as a modern, youth-centered public service brand.
