NDC to hold Ayawaso East parliamentary primary on February 7

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its parliamentary primary on February 7, 2026, to select the party’s candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which outlined the procedures for nominations, filing, vetting, and the conduct of the election. The party urged all aspirants and stakeholders to abide by its timelines and guidelines and to conduct themselves with unity, decency, and fairness.

The by-election follows the death of the late Naser Toure, former MP for Ayawaso East, which rendered the seat vacant. The Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed the by-election in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended.

Nomination Process

The NDC said nomination forms would be available at the party’s Greater Accra Regional Office from Saturday, January 24, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Forms must be submitted on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during the same hours.

A filing fee of GH¢40,000 and a nomination form fee of GH¢5,000 will apply. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities will receive a 50% concession on the filing fee. All payments must be made directly into the party’s designated UMB account at the Adabraka branch; cheques and banker’s drafts will not be accepted.

A certified copy of the delegates’ list will be made available to aspirants once payment verification is completed. Vetting, balloting, and appeals are scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The NDC emphasized that adherence to these procedures is crucial to ensure a transparent and credible primary ahead of the by-election.
