Ghana has enhanced its national emergency response and security capabilities with the acquisition of four advanced helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, under a contract awarded by the Ministry of Defence.
The deal includes two H175M multi-mission helicopters and two corporate platforms—an ACH175 and an ACH160—aimed at strengthening search and rescue, disaster relief, emergency medical services, and official government transport.
According to Airbus Helicopters, the H175M aircraft will be deployed across civilian emergencies and security operations, offering long-range capabilities, high payload capacity, and versatile performance suitable for defence, humanitarian, and public service missions.
Arnaud Montalvo, Head of Africa and Middle East for Airbus Helicopters, described the contract as a renewed partnership with Ghana. “The selection of the H175M reflects Ghana’s operational needs across defence and humanitarian missions, while the corporate helicopters highlight the government’s focus on reliable and modern transport for official duties,” he said.
The ACH160 and ACH175 corporate helicopters are designed for executive and government transport, offering advanced cabin comfort, technology, and operational efficiency.
The acquisition reinforces Ghana’s position as a leading West African customer for Airbus Helicopters and aligns with broader African investments in modern air assets to support security, disaster response, and public service operations.
While delivery timelines and costs were not disclosed, the helicopters are expected to significantly improve Ghana’s rapid response capabilities, enhance disaster management, and strengthen air mobility for defence and government functions.
