Chief Imam rallies prayers for Black Stars

Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, has urged Ghanaians to offer prayers and moral support for the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In a press statement issued in Accra, the Chief Imam extended goodwill, solidarity and blessings to the national team, calling on citizens at home and abroad to rally behind the players and technical team throughout the tournament.

“As Ghana embarks on another historic journey, it is important that we unite in prayer and support for our beloved Black Stars…May Almighty Allah grant them protection from injury and the fortitude to perform with excellence, dignity and honour,” the statement said.

The Chief Imam directed Imams across the country, particularly at the regional and district levels, to remember the Black Stars in their regular prayers and supplications.

He indicated that special prayers were being offered for the team’s opening match and overall success in the World Cup campaign.

The statement recalled a recent engagement between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Office of the National Chief Imam, during which a commitment was made to mobilise spiritual support for the team.

Sheikh Sharubutu emphasised that the Black Stars represented not only football supporters but also the collective hopes and identity of the nation.

He said that Ghana’s participation in the World Cup served as a symbol of unity and patriotism, transcending political, ethnic and religious differences.

The Chief Imam called on all Ghanaians to support the team with one voice and spirit, offering encouragement and goodwill as they seek to bring honour to the nation.

He said he expected the Black Stars to demonstrate talent, determination and discipline in their performance.
