“To hell with them” — Frimpong-Boateng hits back at NPP over expulsion bid

Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has launched a scathing attack on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following moves to expel him from the party.

His response comes after the NPP confirmed that it had begun formal disciplinary processes against him over comments made during a Channel One TV interview on January 12, 2026, in which he described the party as a “fake party” and said he no longer considered himself a member.

The NPP rejected his claims, insisting that its 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner and reflected the will of delegates. Party officials also maintained that the process was accepted by all participating candidates and key stakeholders.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng accused the party’s executives of being largely responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“Look at how we lost the 2024 election — abuse of power, corruption and arrogance,” he said, arguing that party leadership failed to enforce discipline, allowing individuals to act with impunity. He dismissed attempts to remove him from the party, saying, “Now you want to sack someone from the party? To hell with them.”

He further alleged that internal party processes had been manipulated for personal gain, claiming that some members were bribed while others were intimidated into supporting preferred candidates. According to him, such practices significantly contributed to the party’s electoral loss and continue to threaten its future.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng criticised party executives for what he described as a lack of transparency, accusing them of failing to properly interrogate the causes of the defeat and instead preparing to contest future elections under the same flawed system.

“Instead of producing a report for members to study and contribute, they are covering things up and pushing us into another election with the same format. That is very bad,” he said, calling on the current leadership to step aside.

He also took aim at the process that produced the party’s last flagbearer, alleging that delegates were pressured, bribed and intimidated.

“Twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to elect a flagbearer — that is the beginning of corruption. This should not be allowed in any serious institution or political party,” he stated.
