360GP Foundation organizes free health screening for Ashalaja residents

Residents of Ashalaja in the Greater Accra Region were given a rare opportunity for free health screening on Saturday, February 7, 2026, thanks to the 360GP Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to promoting community health.

About 200 people participated in the initiative, which aimed to encourage early detection and preventive healthcare.

The turnout reflected a wide demographic, with roughly 70% elderly participants and 30% younger residents. Women made up about 70% of attendees.

During the screening, health professionals conducted tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, malaria, typhoid, and mental health. Results revealed concerning trends among the elderly: many recorded elevated blood pressure, while several showed high blood sugar levels, indicating undiagnosed or poorly managed diabetes.

A few participants tested positive for malaria and were promptly referred for treatment, while suspected typhoid cases were advised to seek further medical evaluation.

Mental health was also assessed. Doctors observed signs of stress and mild depression among some elderly participants. Basic counseling and reassurance were provided, along with guidance on accessing additional mental health support.

Younger participants were largely healthy. Out of 27 tests conducted, only two returned positive results, highlighting the relative resilience of the younger population but also the importance of preventive care.

Many residents expressed gratitude for the initiative. “It’s reassuring to know my blood pressure is under control,” said one elderly participant. “These simple tests mean a lot, especially since visiting a clinic isn’t always easy.”

The event underscored the ongoing need for accessible healthcare services in the community. The 360GP Foundation plans to expand its outreach, focusing on non-communicable diseases, infectious illnesses, and mental health awareness.

Through initiatives like this, the NGO aims to make preventive healthcare more accessible, providing relief and reassurance to communities that might otherwise go without routine medical care.
