Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Monday visited the site of the collapsed structure at the Accra New Town Experimental School, as investigation continues to unravel the cause of the incident.
Accompanied by senior officials from her office, she was briefed by personnel of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Interior Ministry, and other emergency services on the ongoing operation.
The Vice President inspected the rubble of the uncompleted multi-storey building, which collapsed on Sunday, killing three people and injuring at least 20.
She expressed condolences to the bereaved families, pledging the Government’s commitment to a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Officials at the scene said the structure was an abandoned Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project initiated in 2012, adding that it collapsed while worshippers were gathered inside.
They confirmed that the deceased included two women and one man, while survivors had been transported to various health facilities for treatment.
After inspecting the site, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang proceeded to the 37 Military Hospital, where 13 victims were sent for medical treatment out of which six were discharged Monday morning.
She interacted with the patients and medical staff, and received briefing on their conditions and ongoing treatment efforts.
