MTN Ghana Foundation has opened nominations for the eighth edition of its Heroes of Change programme, inviting the public to nominate unsung Ghanaians whose selfless service is making a lasting difference in their communities.
Nominations for Heroes of Change Season 8 will close on October 19, 2026, with individuals whose work has demonstrated clear and sustainable impact in Education, Health and Economic Empowerment eligible for consideration.
Nominations can be submitted through the MTN Ghana website or at any MTN Service Centre.
The latest edition comes with a significantly enhanced prize package, with the total prize money more than doubled from GH¢900,000 in Season Seven to over GH¢1.8 million.
The increase is intended to enable winners to expand their community interventions while encouraging more Ghanaians to identify and celebrate individuals who are quietly contributing to national development.
GH¢400,000 top prize
Under the new prize structure, the overall winner will receive GH¢400,000, while winners in each of the three categories — Health, Education and Economic Empowerment — will receive GH¢200,000 each.
The three category winners will therefore receive a combined GH¢600,000.
The remaining finalists who do not emerge as category winners will each receive GH¢100,000.
In a new incentive aimed at encouraging greater public participation, individuals who nominate the eventual 10 finalists will each receive GH¢50,000.
Nominators of the finalists will also be eligible for special prizes recognising outstanding contributions in Sustainability and Digital Innovation.
The enhanced package, MTN Ghana Foundation said, is designed not only to reward the heroes but also to provide them with resources to extend the reach and sustainability of their interventions.
Celebrating unsung heroes
Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, said the Heroes of Change programme was established to recognise people whose quiet acts of service were transforming lives without seeking public recognition.
“Heroes of Change celebrates people who serve their communities without seeking recognition or reward. Through Season 8, we want to identify and support more of these remarkable individuals whose work is creating sustainable impact and inspiring others,” she said.
She said the 2026 edition also aligned with MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary and the company’s “Force for Good” philosophy, which seeks to harness its resources, partnerships and platforms to create meaningful social impact and contribute to national development.
The programme, she said, had over the years provided recognition, visibility and financial support to individuals addressing pressing social challenges and enabled them to deepen and expand their interventions.
More than 100 champions recognised
Since its inception, Heroes of Change has recognised more than 100 community champions working in areas including education, healthcare, economic empowerment and, more recently, digital inclusion.
The initiative has become one of MTN Ghana Foundation’s flagship platforms for identifying individuals whose community-level interventions have generated measurable social impact.
Beyond the Heroes of Change programme, MTN Ghana Foundation has implemented more than 178 major social intervention projects, with the initiatives collectively impacting more than five million people across the country.
10 finalists to emerge
A panel comprising broadcaster Gifty Anti, musician Okyeame Kwame and motivational speaker Rev. Albert Ocran will assess the nominations.
The organisers expect about 100 nominations to be shortlisted for preliminary screening before the field is reduced to 30 nominees.
Nationwide verification visits will then be conducted to assess the work and impact of the shortlisted nominees.
Following the verification exercise, the final 10 nominees will be selected in October.
Their stories will subsequently be filmed between October and November and broadcast from December 2026 to March 2027, giving the public an opportunity to learn about the individuals and the work they are doing in their communities.
The process will culminate in the MTN Heroes of Change Awards ceremony in March 2027, where the winners will be announced and recognised.
MTN Ghana Foundation is therefore encouraging members of the public to look beyond high-profile personalities and identify individuals whose everyday acts of service, innovation and commitment are improving lives and creating sustainable change in communities across Ghana.
