MobileMoney FinTech LTD (MMFL) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger and more inclusive digital financial services ecosystem by deepening collaboration with banks, FinTech companies, regulators, mobile money agents, merchants and technology partners to drive innovation, interoperability and responsible digital finance.
Afua Asafo-Adjei, Manager, Communication and Stakeholder Management at MMFL, said no single institution could deliver the next phase of financial inclusion alone, stressing that partnerships across the financial services value chain would be critical to expanding access to digital financial products while ensuring security, consumer protection and sustainable growth.
She made the remarks during a stakeholder engagement with customers, merchants, agents and industry partners in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
She explained that the rapid evolution of financial technology requires stronger collaboration among public and private sector institutions to create seamless financial services that benefit individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
“Collaboration is essential to inclusive FinTech growth. We work with banks, FinTechs, agents, Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), regulators and other ecosystem players to strengthen innovation, interoperability and responsible digital finance,” she said.
Building an integrated ecosystem
She said MMFL’s strategy is anchored on creating an integrated financial ecosystem where customers can seamlessly access payments, savings, lending, insurance and other financial services regardless of the service provider.
Asafo-Adjei explained that greater interoperability would eliminate barriers between financial institutions, making digital payments faster, more convenient and more accessible.
She said priority areas include expanding agent and merchant interoperability, supporting open banking initiatives, promoting responsible digital lending and contributing to policy development that encourages innovation while protecting consumers.
Working with regulators
She said MMFL continues to work closely with the Bank of Ghana, the Cyber Security Authority and other regulatory institutions to strengthen governance, improve consumer protection and support the development of policies that encourage innovation without compromising financial stability.
She said such collaboration has become increasingly important as digital financial services continue to expand across the country.
According to her, close engagement with regulators also enables industry players to respond more effectively to emerging risks, particularly fraud, cybersecurity threats and evolving customer expectations.
Partnerships driving innovation
She said collaboration between MMFL, banks and FinTech companies is creating opportunities to develop new customer-focused financial products while improving interoperability across payment platforms.
She noted that open banking initiatives would enable secure data sharing, with customer consent, between financial institutions, making it easier for customers to access innovative products and personalised financial services.
She added that stronger collaboration with technology providers is also accelerating the development of digital platforms, application programming interfaces (APIs) and integrated financial solutions that support businesses and consumers alike.
Supporting merchants and agents
Asafo-Adjei described mobile money agents and merchants as the backbone of Ghana’s digital finance ecosystem, saying MMFL is working to strengthen their capabilities through improved interoperability and sustainable business models.
She explained that enabling customers to transact seamlessly across multiple payment platforms would improve convenience, increase transaction volumes and reduce dependence on cash.
She added that MMFL is also engaging agents and merchants to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve service quality and build a reliable nationwide digital payments network.
Shared responsibility
She said recent stakeholder engagements and the MMFL FinTech Partner Exchange had reinforced the importance of continuous dialogue among ecosystem players to address common industry challenges and identify practical solutions.
She noted that previous engagements had brought together the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), the Cyber Security Authority, banks, FinTech firms, telecommunications companies, corporate clients and industry associations to strengthen collaboration on innovation, fraud prevention and customer protection.
Inclusive growth
She said MMFL remains committed to supporting an inclusive, interoperable and trusted FinTech ecosystem that expands financial inclusion and creates economic opportunities for individuals and businesses.
Asafo-Adjei stressed that the company’s long-term vision extends beyond digital payments to building a collaborative financial ecosystem where innovation, responsible lending, secure technology and strong partnerships work together to accelerate Ghana’s transition to a resilient cash-lite economy.
