President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to transform the reclaimed Agbogbloshie landfill site into an industrial hub, including the establishment of a textile factory to create jobs for young people.
He said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader plan to reclaim and redevelop landfill sites across the country for productive economic activities.
President Mahama made the announcement on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the commissioning of the evacuation exercise at the Agbogbloshie landfill site under the National Emergency Waste Evacuation Exercise.
According to him, reclaimed landfill sites will be converted into spaces for industrial development and employment creation, particularly for the youth.
The proposed textile factory at Agbogbloshie will form part of the redevelopment plans for the site.
The evacuation of waste from the landfill to the Adepa Waste Centre at Nsawam is expected to last 90 days, with approximately one million tonnes of waste scheduled to be removed.
