‘If the people call, I will go’ — Shatta Wale hints at political ambitions

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has indicated that he may consider contesting the parliamentary seat in Ablekuma South if residents call on him to do so.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Asempa FM, the outspoken musician said he would be willing to enter politics if it would help promote development and improve representation for people in the constituency.

According to him, many communities in Ghana require leaders who genuinely care about the welfare of residents, adding that he believes he could make a meaningful contribution if given the opportunity.

Although he emphasised that music remains his main focus, the award-winning artiste said he would not rule out the possibility of entering politics in the future.

“I love Ghana so much. If the people of Ablekuma call me, I will definitely go. But I won’t say because I have money now, I’m coming to contest. When they call, I will go, but as an independent candidate,” he said.

Shatta Wale noted that his work with young people and frequent engagements with communities have given him insight into some of the challenges residents face, including unemployment and limited opportunities.

He added that if he ever decides to run for office, his priority would be to advocate for youth empowerment, job creation and improved living conditions.

The musician also said he sometimes draws inspiration from films, noting that a recent viewing of the Netflix series “The Book of Moses” made him reflect on leadership and responding to a call from the people.

His remarks have sparked discussions among fans and political observers about the possibility of the entertainer transitioning from music into politics.

For now, however, Shatta Wale says he remains focused on his music career, while leaving open the possibility of entering public office in the future.
