Accra Hearts of Oak have officially withdrawn from the 2026 GHALCA Top-4 Tournament, citing scheduling conflicts with their pre-arranged pre-season programme ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The club announced its decision on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, explaining that the timing of the competition would disrupt critical aspects of its preparations for the upcoming campaign.
In a statement, the Phobians said they carefully assessed the tournament schedule and concluded that participating would interfere with their planned training programme, player recovery sessions and other pre-season commitments that had already been arranged.
According to the club, the dates allocated for the GHALCA Top-4 Tournament are too close to the start of the new Ghana Premier League season, making it difficult to balance competitive matches with the intensive preparation required for a successful campaign.
“Hearts of Oak has officially withdrawn from the 2026 GHALCA Top-4 Tournament due to scheduling conflicts with our pre-arranged pre-season programme,” the club announced.
The club stressed that the decision was not taken lightly but was necessary to ensure the technical team could fully implement its plans before the league kicks off.
Before making the decision, Hearts of Oak revealed that it engaged the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) in discussions aimed at finding a suitable solution. The club sought a possible adjustment to the tournament schedule that would allow it to honour its participation while maintaining its pre-season plans.
However, those discussions did not produce the desired outcome.
According to Hearts of Oak, efforts to have the tournament dates reconsidered were unsuccessful, leaving the club with little choice but to withdraw from the competition.
The decision means one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs will not feature in this year’s edition of the annual pre-season tournament, which traditionally brings together four top clubs to prepare for the new domestic football season.
The GHALCA Top-4 Tournament has long served as an important curtain-raiser for the Ghanaian football calendar, giving participating clubs the opportunity to test their squads, integrate new signings and fine-tune tactics in competitive matches before the commencement of the league.
Despite the benefits associated with the competition, Hearts of Oak believes adhering to its carefully structured pre-season programme is essential to achieving its objectives in the upcoming season.
