Government has released GH¢76.47 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, covering preparations, logistics, player welfare and technical requirements ahead of the tournament.
The funding package includes GH¢58.93 million, equivalent to US$5 million, as an advance payment to finance the team’s preparations and participation in the group stage of the competition.
According to the government, the funds will support key activities such as training camps, travel arrangements, accommodation, logistics and other operational requirements necessary to ensure the team is adequately prepared for the global showpiece.
The release of the funds, government said, demonstrates its commitment to supporting the national team and promoting Ghana’s football development agenda.
In addition, GH¢17.54 million, equivalent to US$1.488 million, has been released to settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to players and officials.
The payments represent the remaining 50 per cent of performance bonuses agreed upon during the World Cup qualifying campaign. Under the arrangement, players received half of their bonuses during the qualifiers, with the balance payable upon securing qualification for the tournament.
Government expressed confidence that the timely release of funds would provide the necessary stability and motivation for the players and technical team to focus on achieving success at the World Cup.
It also called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the Black Stars as they prepare to represent the country on football’s biggest stage.
