Ghana misses medal in Men’s 100m

Ghanaian sprinters Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah narrowly missed out on medals in the men’s 100 metres final at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship currently underway in Accra.

The two athletes entered the final with high hopes after impressive performances in the semi-finals earlier in the day, where each won his respective heat to book a place among the continent’s elite sprinters. Their strong displays raised expectations among home fans eager to see Ghana secure a podium finish in one of the championship’s marquee events.

However, the final proved highly competitive, with some of Africa’s fastest athletes battling for top honours in a closely contested race. Amoah finished just outside the medal positions in fourth place after clocking 10.31 seconds, while Saminu followed closely in sixth position with a time of 10.32 seconds. The narrow margins highlighted the intense level of competition in the race.

Cameroon’s Alowede Eseme Emmanuel emerged victorious, claiming the gold medal with a winning time of 10.25 seconds. South Africa’s Bradley Nkoana secured the silver medal after finishing in 10.31 seconds, while Nigeria’s Chidera Ezeakor took bronze to complete the podium places.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on medals in the 100 metres, Ghana’s sprint duo still have opportunities to make an impact before the championship concludes.

Both athletes are expected to compete in the men’s 200 metres event as well as the 4×100 metres relay, where Ghana will be hoping for a stronger showing and a possible place on the podium in front of the home crowd.
