Dennis Miracles Aboagye breaks silence after EOCO release

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director hopeful Dennis Miracles Aboagye has spoken publicly for the first time since his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), insisting that his four-day detention has only strengthened his determination to serve the party.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Aboagye declared that he was “out, unbroken and more ready than ever,” while expressing gratitude to NPP supporters who rallied behind him during his detention.

According to him, his arrest came just a day after he publicly announced his intention to contest the position of National Communications Director of the NPP.

“Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO. A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail,” he stated.

Aboagye also denied reports that EOCO investigators questioned him about an alleged GH¢55 million financial matter.

“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!” he said.

The former government spokesperson thanked NPP members and supporters who took to the streets and publicly demanded his release, saying their solidarity gave him strength during his time in detention.

“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised your voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you. From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall,” he said.

He added: “You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence.”

Reaffirming his ambition to lead the NPP’s communications machinery, Aboagye said his detention had not weakened his resolve.

“Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that,” he stated.

According to him, the experience had only added to his determination.

“Fuel has only been added to the fire,” he said.

Aboagye concluded by thanking his legal team, the NPP leadership and party supporters for standing by him throughout the ordeal.

“This journey is no longer mine alone. It is ours. We move. Stronger. Louder. Together. Built to Lead. Ready to Win,” he said.

EOCO Investigation

EOCO arrested Aboagye as part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million at the Secretariat of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

The investigation also involves Gerald Appiah, a former Accountant at IMCCoD, who is being investigated over the same matter.

In a statement dated July 13, EOCO said the investigations followed a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting further inquiries into a forensic audit covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.

The anti-graft agency said the investigations, which began last year following an initial forensic audit, focused on suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds amounting to about GH¢55 million.

EOCO said Aboagye, Appiah and other individuals were being investigated for suspected offences including conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.

The agency further disclosed that Appiah had voluntarily begun refunding some of the funds allegedly linked to the offences.

However, EOCO stressed that the recoveries did not bring the investigations to an end and did not absolve any suspect of potential criminal liability.
