Barcelona edge Real Madrid 3-2 to retain Supercopa title

Barcelona retained their Supercopa de España crown in dramatic fashion, edging arch-rivals Real Madrid 3-2 in the 2026 final at Alinma Bank Stadium on Sunday, January 11.

The victory marked a repeat of last season’s triumph over Los Blancos and underlined the resilience of Hansi Flick’s side, who withstood sustained pressure after Madrid arrived buoyed by an earlier league win over the Catalans.

The match sprang to life just after the half-hour mark when Raphinha opened the scoring, punishing defensive lapses in Xabi Alonso’s back line with a well-taken finish.

Real Madrid, who started the match without Kylian Mbappé in the starting XI, struggled to cope with Barcelona’s aggressive pressing and quick transitions, despite entering the final full of confidence.

First-half stoppage time delivered a frenetic spell, with three goals in four minutes. Vinícius Júnior drew Madrid level before Robert Lewandowski restored Barcelona’s advantage almost immediately. Gonzalo García then struck back for Madrid to leave the sides locked at 2-2 at the break.

Raphinha proved decisive once again after the restart, firing home his second goal of the night to reclaim the lead for Barcelona and halt Madrid’s momentum.

The Brazilian’s brace ultimately sealed Barcelona’s second consecutive Supercopa title and reinforced their recent dominance in the fixture.

Madrid pushed for a late equaliser, but questions will be raised over Alonso’s decision to withdraw Vinícius — his side’s most dangerous outlet — in the 82nd minute as they chased the game.

Barcelona now turn their attention back to La Liga, while Real Madrid are left to reflect on another painful Clásico defeat.
