The Government of Ghana spent GH¢58 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed.
Dr Forson revealed the expenditure while presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, explaining that the amount formed part of government’s approved spending to assist Ghana’s campaign at the global tournament.
“To support Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an amount of GH¢58 million has been paid,” the Finance Minister told Parliament.
The disclosure, according to Dr Forson, was made as part of government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, providing Parliament with details of expenditure on key programmes and sectors captured in the 2026 Budget.
“In the spirit of transparency and accountability, allow me to lay before this House a clear account of some of the expenditure we have made so far in support of government programmes and sectors approved in the 2026 Budget,” he said.
The Black Stars, coached by experienced Portuguese trainer Carlos Queiroz, delivered a strong showing at the tournament, surpassing expectations by progressing beyond the group stage before bowing out in the newly introduced Round of 32.
Ghana finished 24th overall in the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup, marking a successful return to football’s biggest stage after securing qualification for the tournament hosted in North America.
The government’s investment was aimed at ensuring the team had the necessary support and resources to compete effectively on the world stage.
