Chief Imam urges discipline ahead of Hajj 2026

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, has urged Ghanaian pilgrims for this year’s Hajj to exhibit discipline, humility and respect throughout the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

He called on prospective pilgrims to reflect the highest values of Islam, including patience, selflessness and adherence to laid-down guidelines, noting that their conduct would represent Ghana and the wider Muslim community.

A press statement dated May 5, 2026 said the National Chief Imam made the call ahead of the annual pilgrimage.

He urged strict compliance with regulations governing the pilgrimage to ensure a smooth and successful experience.

The Chief Imam expressed appreciation to national authorities and the Hajj Board for their efforts in organising the pilgrimage and commended their dedication to improving the welfare, logistics and overall experience of Ghanaian pilgrims.

He advised pilgrims to remain law-abiding during their stay in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to uphold Ghana’s image abroad.

The Chief Imam offered prayers for safe travel, good health and divine acceptance of the pilgrims’ acts of worship.

Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, requires every able-bodied Muslim with the financial means to undertake the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime.

The ritual takes place annually during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah and attracts millions of Muslims worldwide.
