Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus is facing a race against time to be fit for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering a fresh injury setback that could rule him out of the rest of the season.
The talented attacker, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, had been expected to return to action this month following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Kudus originally sustained a serious quad tendon injury during Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland on January 4, an incident that has kept him out of action for over three months.
Optimism had grown around his recovery, with former interim head coach Igor Tudor suggesting last month that the Ghanaian was just weeks away from rejoining the squad.
Tudor indicated that Kudus was progressing well and could begin partial training with the team within 10 days following the international break.
However, that anticipated return has now been delayed after the player aggravated the injury, raising fresh concerns over his fitness.
Reports indicate that Kudus has not trained with the Spurs squad since the earlier update, casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the campaign.
Although the exact nature of the latest setback has not been disclosed, sources suggest the 24-year-old is unlikely to feature again this season.
Tottenham had hoped to have him back for their final seven matches, but the latest development has effectively ruled out that possibility.
Kudus had been a key figure for Spurs prior to his injury, registering nine goal involvements across 24 appearances in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League following his £55 million move from West Ham United last summer.
His absence comes at a difficult time for Tottenham, who are currently languishing in 17th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, as the club battles to secure its top-flight status.
More significantly for Ghana, the injury raises serious concerns about Kudus’ participation in the upcoming World Cup.
The Ghana national football team are set to open their campaign against Panama national football team on June 18, before facing England national football team on June 23 and Croatia national football team on June 27.
With the tournament fast approaching, Kudus now faces a tight recovery timeline, leaving both club and country anxiously awaiting updates on his condition.
His potential absence would be a major blow to Ghana’s World Cup ambitions, given his influence and attacking threat in recent years. As it stands, the forward’s participation remains uncertain, with his recovery now entering a critical phase.
