Davido loses $50,000 bet as Nigeria crash out of AFCON semifinals

Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has reportedly lost a $50,000 bet after Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to defeat Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations semifinal encounter on Wednesday.

Hours before kickoff, Davido shared his betting slip on social media, revealing he had staked $50,000 on Nigeria to beat the Atlas Lions. However, the wager did not pay off after the tightly contested match ended goalless in regulation time, with Morocco eventually winning 4–2 on penalties.

Similarly, popular Nigerian TikToker Peller expressed his disappointment after losing a $3,000 bet, which he had placed on Nigeria to secure victory within 90 minutes.

Reacting during a livestream on Wednesday night, Peller said sarcastically, “Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well. I’ve lost my $3,000 bet. You were winning your previous games until I decided to bet and watch.”

He added jokingly, “Maybe if I stop watching your matches, you’ll start winning again.”

Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations came to an end following the semifinal defeat to host nation Morocco. The match, played under intense pressure and high expectations, ended 0–0 after regulation time before the Atlas Lions prevailed in the shootout.

While Morocco celebrated their progression to Sunday’s final on home soil, members of the Nigerian camp voiced frustration, raising concerns over what they described as questionable officiating by Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea, who oversaw the encounter.
