Two police officers attached to the Ofoase Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region have died following a tragic motor accident at Ofoase Ayirebi in the Akyemansa District.
The deceased officers, Lance Corporal Isaac Anti and Constable Allonyor Thomas, reportedly lost their lives when the motorcycle on which they were travelling collided with a stationary motorised tricycle, popularly known as an “aboboyaa.”
The accident occurred while the officers were off duty.
According to information gathered, Lance Corporal Anti died instantly at the scene of the accident due to the severity of the impact.
Constable Thomas, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the Brenase Health Centre for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Sources indicate that the collision occurred when the officers’ motorcycle ran into the parked cargo tricycle along the Ofoase–Ayirebi road.
Following the accident, the owner of the tricycle reportedly fled the scene after realising that the victims were police officers.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the individual may have feared a possible mob attack from members of the community.
Police have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
The bodies of the two officers have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy and preservation.
The tragic incident has cast a sombre mood over the policing community in the Eastern Region, particularly among personnel at the Ofoase Divisional Police Command where the two officers were stationed.
Colleagues and residents in the area have expressed shock over the sudden loss of the officers, who were described as dedicated members of the Ghana Police Service.
