The Legal Green Association (LGA) has officially launched a scholarship scheme to support financially disadvantaged students of the Ghana School of Law, reinforcing its commitment to access, equity, and professional development in legal education.
The event, dubbed “Kumasi Konnect,” marked the Kumasi phase of the scholarship launch, following its earlier unveiling in Accra. It took place on Saturday, 31st January 2026, at the Conference Rooms of the Mastercard International Hostel, KNUST, and attracted a diverse audience from the legal fraternity, public service, governance institutions, and the student community. The strong turnout reflected the growing relevance of the Association’s initiatives.
In her opening remarks, Emerentiana W. Alatinga, General Secretary of the LGA, described the scholarship scheme as a landmark initiative designed to remove financial barriers that often prevent deserving students from completing their professional legal education. She emphasized that the initiative is not merely financial aid but a means of restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity to students who demonstrate commitment and potential.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ghana’s youngest minister, praised LGA for translating advocacy into tangible support. Sharing a personal account, he highlighted how the generosity of a benefactor once shaped his academic journey, motivating him to give back to society. Participants admired his humility, noting his willingness to serve beyond his ministerial status, exemplifying servant leadership.
Mr. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, welcomed the initiative and urged students to pursue their ambitions with discipline, determination, and perseverance, sharing how these values shaped his own journey from modest beginnings to supporting the education of many young people.
Captain (Retired) John Kwame Jabari, Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, described the scholarship as laudable and timely, urging the Association to maintain discipline, transparency, and prudent management of the fund to ensure its long-term impact.
Jackson Bright Kitanya-Dabanyi, representing the LGA Caucus at the SRC, provided a detailed explanation of the scholarship’s application, selection, and disbursement processes, highlighting the framework designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and effective administration.
A former SRC President of the Ghana School of Law, Mr. Wonder Victor Kotor, reflected on his experiences, praised LGA’s dedication, and underscored the importance of credibility and performance in leadership, citing his own election success despite political affiliations. Other notable attendees included Hon. Comrade Fynn Reagan Emmanuel, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, alongside figures from public service and civil society.
Delivering the main address, Mr. Festus Matey traced LGA’s evolution since its formation in 2022, from a student political group into a policy-driven, development-oriented organization advocating for professional law students. He highlighted achievements such as LGA’s advocacy that secured the inclusion of law students in the Students Loan Trust Fund, access to pupillage placements, and internship opportunities with the Attorney-General’s Office. He described the scholarship as central to LGA’s agenda, aimed at financial support, mentorship, professional ethics, and capacity building.
“Kumasi Konnect” also marked LGA’s first major event outside Accra, signaling the Association’s intent to expand its presence across campuses. Evans Mawunyo Tsikata, Head of Politics, stressed the importance of member welfare, urging aspirants to remain proactive, protect their integrity, and uphold ethical standards.
The launch demonstrated how student-led organizations can meaningfully contribute to educational access, professional development, and national progress. The success of the programme was credited to Emmanuel Ansu-Djan, LGA Kumasi Campus Coordinator, and his dedicated team.
Through advocacy, partnerships, and targeted initiatives, LGA continues to establish itself as a key stakeholder in legal education and student empowerment. The scholarship serves as a reminder that with vision, discipline, and collective effort, student movements can achieve lasting impact, ensuring no committed law student is left behind due to financial hardship.
In closing, Michael Nana Gyasi expressed appreciation to dignitaries, guests, and partners, particularly the Ashanti Regional Minister and Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, for their support in advancing LGA’s mission. He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to deepening its presence on the Kumasi campus, nurturing relationships, and sustaining partnerships for a brighter future for all.
