Former beauty queen Hamamat Montia has been officially named Ghana’s Shea Butter Ambassador, adding another honour to her growing list of achievements.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in Accra on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. At the event, she received a citation in recognition of her contributions to the shea butter industry, Ghanaian culture, and women’s empowerment.
The ceremony brought together dignitaries, creatives, and industry players, including Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, media personality Abeiku Santana, playwright Latif Abubakar, Daddy Bosco, and George Quaye.
Hamamat’s work has recently gained international attention, especially after American streamer IShowSpeed visited her Shea Butter Museum in a viral moment that highlighted global interest in Ghanaian culture and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, described the appointment as significant for Ghana’s cultural and economic development. She said Hamamat represents authenticity, excellence, and global relevance rooted in African identity.
According to the Minister, shea butter is more than a cosmetic product. She described it as a cultural asset that supports rural women, sustains communities, and tells a powerful story of African innovation and wellness.
Hamamat, in her remarks, expressed gratitude for the honour and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with the role. She pledged to champion the shea butter industry, noting its estimated $2.62 billion global market value.
She urged Ghana to move beyond exporting raw materials and instead focus on producing premium, ethical African products that empower local women and communities.
She also referenced the viral visit by IShowSpeed, describing it as a symbol of the global appeal and dignity of African traditions.
The ceremony featured a short film titled “The Hamamat Journey,” performances by the National Dance Ensemble, and a shea tasting session.
As part of her new role, Hamamat will lead a shea butter cooking demonstration on March 14, Ghana Culture Day, to promote Ghanaian traditions and culture.
